Peacefully at Douglas Campbell Lodge, Irene Scharien passed away with her family by her side at the age of 90 years.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Bud in 2005 as well as by two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughters Judy Fleming (Hank), Linda Nickels (Howie) and her son Gerry (Betty); five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mom taught school in Westbourne and then in Portage la Prairie at Yellowquill School. She retired in 1983 and she and Bud spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona.
Mom enjoyed reading, walking, dancing and especially getting together with her Westbourne friends.
Mom entered Douglas Campbell Lodge in July 2013 and enjoyed her new friends, especially doing puzzles with Tina Ferris and her family.
Flowers gratefully declined. If you so wish a donation to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or any charity of choice would be appreciated.
In keeping with Irene’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral. Private interment will take place at a later date.
